Zen Your Life: The Wardrobe Edition
Posted by Goddess Leonie on February 25th, 2010. Filed under: Zen Thursday.
Hey beautiful hearts!
Each Thursday, we hang out together as a gaggle of goddesses & make our gorgeous lives a little clearer, calmer and more zen. We do one Zen Your Life project together for the day… an easy, possible kind of project… just one small thing to make our lives more zen.
When we make space in our lives, we are making room for even more delight, comfort, magic and love to enter.
Sound like yummy delicious fun? Want some more zen goodness in your life?
Hurrah! Let’s start! We can doooo eeeeeeeet!
Today, your Zen Your Life project is:
Throw out five items of clothing.
Does this sound a little scary?
Start with things that don’t fit, don’t look great, you don’t wear or you don’t feel amazing in!
On the weekend, I decided in a fit of “OMG! We need room for baby!” that we needed to fit both me & Soul Spunk’s clothes into one cupboard instead of two.
And holy dinger, it was SO wonderful to do it. We ended up finding favourite clothes that we’d thought we’d lost and brand new shoes that were perfect and ready to be loved up.
I felt so inspired especially after reading about Walk Slowly Live Wildly‘s weekly letting-go of clothes & things her family didn’t love or need.
So five big garbage bags of clothes were gifted on to people who could love and use them… and we’ve now got a cupboard that is clear and simple and filled with things we love wearing.
I even get thoughts of eventually owning seven outfits and just wearing those.
So anyway! It’s challenge time… throw out five items of clothing. See where it takes you. Don’t make it into a big chore… just do it
Just remember: You will feel so, so, so amazingly good & clear after doing it.

Need some accountability?
You can use the above buttons on your blog. You can check-in to the Comments Circle. You can write out your Zen Goddess goal on a scrap of paper beside you.
Whatever you need to do to give yourself the support you need, do it.
Loving you, fellow Zennifying Goddessa!

Oooh, I did this one weeks ago. I realized I was promising myself that I would throw out everything that didn’t fit me or make me happy on my birthday – but why wait?! I bagged it all up and ushered it to Goodwill, and now I have room for shiny new things that make me happy! (:

I go through my wardrobe either every spring or fall, depending on what I think is a better time to do it, and take out all the clothes that don’t fit, I don’t wear any more, are falling apart, or I just plain don’t like. It’s a great thing to do because then I don’t have that annoying experience where I look at my closet full of clothes, yet still have “nothing to wear.” Unfortunately, I haven’t had much money to replenish all the stuff I’ve thrown out, but someday I will.

Oh boy. I’m doing some serious Zenning lately, darling. I have a lot of dead people’s stuff. And clothes that I never wear. There are some HUGE bags and boxes chock full of stuff that are getting turfed! It’s awesome!

This is the most perfect time for me, because I am going to an Overeaters Anonymous workshop/retreat on Saturday, and there’s always a clothing exchange. You bring clothes that no longer fit you, and you can pick up new ones that others have brought. The truth is that I have several bags of clothes that I haven’t worn in forever (which are different from the bags of shirts which I am saving for the day I learn how to make them into a quilt…) but I have not had the courage to get rid of them. I am on a journey of recovery from compulsive overeating, and this journey usually results in weight loss, but by the time I fit some of these clothes that I’ve already been hanging onto for years, they may be more than 3 or 4 years old, and they may not fit my style anymore. Truly, I think that these old clothes are just a symbol of the time when I thought that just forcing myself to diet would make me lose weight. That thought was not accurate in my personal experience, and it was harmful to me. So I think I can release 5 of those items and put them in the clothing exchange. Thanks for giving such a good, yet doable, challenge!

As I am loosing weight and have to buy new things on a regular basis (don’t worry I love that bit) I have to let go of clothes regularly as well. As for the new things I buy I only buy “love” items. I bought this pair of jeans and they are heaven. For my current size I only have two pairs of trousers. And I survive. I have 5 tops, that I love. And guess what I survive. My wardrobe is pretty empty… a few things that I kept from my lighter years that I may wear again when I get to that size.

Well I did it. And it turned into a whole trash bag of stuff that needs to be donated to somewhere and a smaller basked of stuff that needs to be repurposed and finda new life. I feel much better with now. I had liek 12 plain white t-shirts…I think that might be overkill. I am hopinh to go through my closet again next week and get rid of some more stuff that I couldn’t decide on this time. Thanks for the challenge!

Hmmm, I need the weekend to get to this one (it’s already Friday, and am just catching up on email/blogs). May shift this to cull five sewing patterns I am never going to get around to using, to make room for a few newer, more appealing ones that are on their way.

i actually have cleaned my closets and drawers a lot … but on my list was to clean my daughter’s closet … i found some clothes to give away, old toys and books and before i knew it, i had an entire truck full of stuff for goodwill! feels soooo good. cleaning your kid’s stuff is hard, so many memories and my daughter is a natural pack rat (every note, every card or scrap of paper saved … where did she learn this?)
i love this … i feel like i am getting a handle on things and if i just do this little bit each week, it will not get out of control.
now to tackle those piles of photographs waiting to go into any album … oh, next week!

I just saw that Australia is in the Tsunami threat zone as a result of the earthquake in Chile, and immediately thought of you, Leonie. Sending protective energy & prayers of safety to you and your family. Peace, Love & Light from a sister in Florida.

Leonie–you are a mindreader! I love the idea of just a few classic, well-made items in one’s wardrobe. I have a plan to do just that! Thanks for helping me not fell crazy!
