How this Goddess starts her morning… the Goddess Green Smoothie!

Posted by Goddess Leonie on March 8th, 2010. Filed under: Radiant Goddess.

Hola gorgeous Goddesses!

I thought I’d share with you my favourite way of starting my morning… my Goddess Green Smoothie. I share this little addiction of mine in the Radiant Goddess eCourse… I totally think if you just make ONE change in your diet of adding a green smoothie… it makes SUCH a big, beautiful difference to your energy levels.

I usually have mine for breakfast… but they are also perfect for when I’m feeling like I’m rundown, lacking in some greenness or need a 3pm energy pep-up.

Green smoothies can be made in a bazillion different ways, but here’s how I make mine:

Blend:

1 banana

A handful of mixed berries {I buy frozen packets}

A handful of baby spinach leaves or lettuce leaves

A splash of water.

And then add your extra goodies, if you want some!

I add into mine:

A teaspoon of Maca powder
This tastes to me like a burnt vanilla kind of flavour. It is a ground up Andean root vegetable, and chock-full-o nutrients. For me, Maca has helped me even out my moon cycles of bleeding {before I became pregnacious}, recircuits my nervous system and gives me a beautiful, grounded burst of energy. Maca can also help with boosting sex drive, fertility, helping balance all your organs, and soothing anxiety. As with all herbs, I totally suggest trying it out, and seeing if it seems to sing and resonate with you. I know Maca really, really works with my body – it may or may not for yours.

Two Spirulina tablets
Spirulina is a super green food, and is made from a microscopic freshwater plant. It is brimming with antioxidants and iron and good bits.

Go with whatever superfoods or extra nutrients you like… or stick with the plain green smoothie… it’s all good.

If you want it sweeter:

Add some agave nectar, maple syrup, stevia or some dates into the blender as well.

The most important thing:

Try it out – make it as simple and as delicious as you want it to be.

Goddess Green Smoothies = OM NOM NOM for our beautiful bodies.

big love you!

I love this post. I took your radiance ecourse this last term and it was amazing….I too have adopted drinking the green berry smoothy every morning with my oatmeal/banana. I absolutely love the taste of it. I use banana, frozen blueberries, spinach, soy milk, stevia and maca powder. I love the idea of adding spirulina…I will have to try that.

  2. fiona

Yay Green Smoothie Goddesses! Mine this morning has two bananas, a handful of frozen raspberries, a handful of dandy greens, chard, and celery greens, chocolate hemp protein powder, hemp protein powder, and almond milk! Nom nom. Will definitely check out the maca!

Goddess Laura ~ Oh you are so precious dearheart… I am SOO glad you got so much out of the Radiant Goddess e-course… yayayayay :) And I totally dig adding soy milk too.. makes it extra creamy :)

Goddess Fiona ~ Oh sweetness… that sound deeeeevine :) I love the sound of that. And maca is DA.BOMB. I heart big time :)

  4. Holly

OM NOM NOM indeed! Grrrreat smoothie.

So far I personally can’t use the maca root as I’ve just gone off hormonal birthcontrol (yay no more pills!) and my body is still adjusting, but I’m going to try it again after I’m a little more settled. I have a few girlfriends who I know should research maca, they have rough cycles. Thanksssssooo much Goddess Leonie for this recipe. It perks up my day!

Yumm! I love green smoothies, and yes they are quite the energized drink in the afternoon for me.
What an absolutely adorable photo of you!!

Gorgeous Goddess, you radiate soul-light. I just wanted to say thank-you for your encouragement during this big medicine I’ve been experiencing.
I have implemented your reminder about green smoothies, and you are quite right. I see an improvement in my cravings for sugars. So much gratitude to you for your light, love, and amazing energetic contribution to this sparkling world. You glisten.
    Love, love.

  7. Whitney

I’ve never tried a green smoothie. How long do you have to blend it in the blender? Also, doesn’t it taste weird with all of the veggies in it?

  8. Goddess Leonie

Goddess Holly ~ Ooh! Interesting factoid on the cycles… mine were all over the place until I started using maca! They helped readjust everything into place again… Hurrrrah!

Goddess Whitney ~ Ooh you totally have to try it sweetie. Just blend it for a minute or two until everything is all smooth, add water until it is the thickness/runniness that you like. All the banana + berries covers up the greenness… plus if you use green things like lettuce and spinach, they have a really mild flavour anyway that is disguised so easily :)

Goddess Maggie Ann ~ Oh sweetie, I so love and honour you… and think you are just so wonderful. You are doing SO good hon… you are so brave and loving. And YAY! So glad the green smoothies are helping sweetcheeks. Love you to bits!

Goddess Boho Mom ~ Oh I always love seeing your gorgeous face around these parts hon! *big bear hugs*

I so so so HEART the green smoothies! They have freed me from the horrid cookie addiction and anytime I feel craving for something sweet I have a green smoothie first and that usually takes care of me. I had an avocado half left over from lunch one day and decided to throw it in…holy creamy goodness Batman it was wonderful!

  10. Gina

Hi Goddess Leonie and other Goddesses!
I don’t do well with bananas- love them, but they don’t love me-they seem to make candida act up with me.

Any suggestion as a replacement for them?
What do you all think of some avocado like Dee~va stated she threw in above?

Just trying to get some fresh input.

    Thanks Loves!
    Gina

I have just fallen in love with the green smoothie! I wasn’t sure about the idea of putting a banana in it, because I didn’t really want an overwhelmingly banana-flavored smoothie, but it turned out great by balancing it with other flavors. I used a small banana, a small apple, two big handfuls of frozen blueberries, two dollops of Greek yogurt, a handful of spinach, a little bit of coconut water, and a spoonful of green protein powder that contains spirulina and chlorophyll. The frozen blueberries made the smoothie nice and cold. It was delicious and filling. Thanks for the inspiration!

I absolutely have fallen in love with green smoothies and make them like you, Leonie. Only I often add some fresh ginger and some squeezed lemon to make it wake me up a bit (and keep colds away).
Another tip if you need to stay awake and have trouble with it: raw tequila = pieces of fresh lemon with salt generously sprinkled on top =).
